Church Ops

Custom-built operations tools for a 2,000-member church, from hardware kiosks to attendance tracking.

The problem

Christ Covenant Church needed two things: a way for their congregation to explore their global missions program interactively, and a way to track attendance for new-member classes, previously managed with paper for 85+ attendees per class. Commercial solutions existed but were expensive, inflexible, and couldn't be customized to the church's specific vision and workflows.

What I built

Global Missions Kiosk. A native Android app (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) deployed on two Elo 4304L 43" interactive touchscreens managed via EloView. It displays an interactive map of missionaries with profiles, prayer requests, and real-time updates. Content is backed by Airtable so church staff can update missionary information without developer involvement. I managed the full lifecycle: hardware procurement, EloView device provisioning and configuration, app development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.

Check Right In. Started as a free project and turned into paid work — an attendance-tracking app (Swift/SwiftUI) that operates across a network of iPads, centralizing all attendance data in one location. Originally backed by Airtable, I later migrated the system to Supabase and built a custom admin dashboard with Vite so the client could manage everything themselves. Replaced paper tracking for 85+ person classes, eliminating human error and enabling historical data retention.

Both apps follow the same principle — build self-sustaining systems: the client manages their own data through simple interfaces (admin dashboard, EloView) without needing to call me.

Stack

Kiosk: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Airtable, Elo 4304L hardware, EloView MDM. Check-in: Swift, SwiftUI, Supabase, Vite (admin dashboard). Hardware: two Elo 4304L 43" interactive displays with Android backpacks.

Status

Both deployed and in active use. 1,000+ people have used the check-in system over 4+ years. The kiosks have been running continuously since deployment.
