TimeLogger

A stdlib-only Python time logger, written on a phone, for billing hours against a budget.

What it is

One prompt loop, one plain-text log, one JSON file of totals. It was written in 2024 in an iOS terminal emulator to bill a client at an hourly rate against a remaining-hours budget, and it still has no dependencies outside the Python standard library — which is the whole point: it runs anywhere Python runs, including the terminal apps on a phone or tablet.

What we like about it

It is as small as a tool like this can be and still be real. No tags, no projects, no sync, no interface beyond start, stop, summary, edit last. The ambition is to keep it that way.

Status

The audit found real bugs — the packaging shipped an empty wheel, the data directory resolved relative to the installed file rather than the home directory, the daily summary was off by one, and a recovery prompt could fabricate an entry from a single accidental keypress. All are small, well-scoped fixes, and they are being made now. Published as-is, it would not install cleanly; that is why the status line says what it says.
